Début was born in New York City in 2002, conceived by a fashion graduate with a vision that the industry wasn’t ready for yet. Fresh from FIT and working as a freelance stylist, our founder saw a gap that felt impossible to ignore.
Début was founded with Black women at the center — the original trendsetters, the cultural architects, the women the fashion world has always borrowed from and rarely celebrated. Not stereotypical. Not peripheral. Central.
Over two decades, Début has taken many forms — print, digital, app — each iteration a refinement of the original vision, shaped by a changing world and an evolving medium. What has never changed is the conviction behind it. Some ideas are too important to abandon. They simply wait for the right moment.
That moment is now. Début has found its home — and it is exactly what we always knew it would be.
